Porter (Clergy of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church)

A porter is a clergyman within the United Roman-Ruthenian Church who ranks below a Lector and above a tonsured cleric. Porter is one of the Minor Holy Orders of the clergy. When ordained, as a symbol of their office, they open and close the church door and ring the church bells.

A porter was a function similar to a gatekeeper whose duties included opening, closing, and guarding the church, ensuring no unbaptized persons entered during the Divine Liturgy.
