Apostles’ Creed

Prayer of the heart
The Chotki
The chotki consists of inward meditation while saying the Jesus Prayer on each bead: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.”
There is no single set form for the chotki. It may begin simply with the Sign of the Cross, or optionally with opening prayers such as the Trisagion, the Creed, a Psalm—especially Miserere mei, Deus (Psalm 50/51)—or other appropriate prayers. The number of repetitions may follow the number of knots or beads on the prayer rope, while attention remains fixed upon Christ and the prayer of the heart.
