The apostolic succession of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church comprises several historic lines received through the bishops and jurisdictions that converged in its modern union.
Principal inheritances
The Church’s official record identifies Russian Orthodox succession associated with Archbishop Aftimios Ofiesh; Syrian Antiochene, Malabarese, and Gallican lines; Greek Orthodox succession through Patriarch Damian I of Jerusalem; Coptic, Armenian, Melkite, Chaldean, Syro-Chaldean, and Russo-Syriac successions; and Roman, Anglican, Old Catholic, American Orthodox Catholic, and African Orthodox lines.
Meaning within the Church
These successions are presented as a convergent sacramental patrimony. The Church distinguishes this episcopal and sacramental continuity from its Stephenian institutional succession, which describes the lawful continuity of a particular ecclesiastical jurisdiction.
