The Assyrian Church of the East is an ancient apostolic church formed in the East Syriac Christian world beyond the eastern frontier of the Roman Empire.
Worship and mission
It celebrates the East Syriac Rite and preserves classical Syriac in its worship. Historically, the Church of the East sustained major missionary communities across Persia, Central Asia, India, and China.
Identity
The church is distinct from both Eastern Orthodoxy and Oriental Orthodoxy. Modern dialogue has clarified important Christological misunderstandings that contributed to centuries of separation.
