Imperial and Royal Highness (title)

The title of "Imperial and Royal Highness" is a style within the Pontifical Imperial State of Rome-Ruthenia and the United Roman-Ruthenian Church exclusively used by the specific Prince-Electors (if not clerics) and their consorts who comprise the honourary members of the Pontifical and Imperial Household. These are the Electors of Mainz, Köln, and Trier; as well as the Elector of Würzburg, which is a personal title of the Prince-Bishop of Rome-Ruthenia, if the Prince-Bishop permits it to be used by a layman. Wives of Electors follow the style usage of their husbands.

The members of the families of the Electors do not use this style, but instead use the style of Serene Highness unless entitled to a higher style.

This style is also used by those for whom it is their traditional family title, e.g., the imperial families of Austria-Hungary and Germany.
