The Oriental Orthodox Churches are a family of ancient apostolic churches that receive the first three Ecumenical Councils and maintain a miaphysite Christological tradition.
Member churches
The family includes the Coptic, Syriac, Armenian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, and Malankara Orthodox churches. Each is self-governing while sharing sacramental communion with the others.
Christological dialogue
Modern theological dialogues have shown that many historic disputes with Chalcedonian churches arose partly from language and political division. Oriental Orthodoxy should not be confused with Eastern Orthodoxy or with the Assyrian Church of the East.
