The Stephenian Archives preserve documentary materials relating to the United Roman-Ruthenian Church, the Diocese of Rome-Ruthenia, the Pontifical Imperial State, and associated institutions.

Purpose

Ecclesiastical archives safeguard acts of governance, correspondence, registers, historical records, photographs, publications, and other evidence of institutional life. They support administration, historical research, accountability, and collective memory.

Stephenian identity

The name associates the archives with Saint Stephen the Apostle and Archdeacon (patron saint of the Diocese of Rome-Ruthenia) and with the institutional succession of the Roman-Ruthenian jurisdiction. Archival custody is distinct from the public reference and scholarly functions of the Pontifical Apostolic Library.
