It follows the West Syriac liturgical tradition and preserves Syriac, a form of Aramaic, as a principal sacred language. Its worship, poetry, and theology reflect the heritage of saints such as Ephrem the Syrian and Jacob of Serugh.

The church is led by the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and includes dioceses in the Middle East, India, Europe, the Americas, and other regions.
