Pontifical College of Chaplains United Roman-Ruthenian Church The Pontifical College of Chaplains is a collegiate body of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church recognizing those who have rendered significant, sustained, or meritorious service in chaplaincy, spiritual care, institutional ministry, humanitarian service, veterans’ ministry, emergency response, bereavement support, or related pastoral fields. Admission to the College is by petition, nomination, or appointment, and is granted in the single grade of Fellow of the Pontifical College of Chaplains, with the postnomials FPCCh. Recipients may be within the canonical structure of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church or in other Christian churches. Fellows may also be clergy or members of religious orders. The title and ecclesiastical function of Chaplain, in the proper sense, are reserved for the clergy. The Pontifical College of Chaplains, however, may also recognize other persons who render significant service in fields closely related to chaplaincy, including female religious (known as Religious Sisters in Pastoral Service) and the laity (known as Laymen/Laywomen in Pastoral Service) qualified and engaged in spiritual care, humanitarian service, institutional visitation, bereavement support, veterans’ ministry, emergency-response service, or similar works of chaplain-adjacent mercy. Such persons may be admitted as Fellows of the Pontifical College of Chaplains in recognition of their service, without implying that they hold the ecclesiastical title or office of Chaplain.
