The Incarnation is the mystery by which the eternal Son and Word of God assumed a complete human nature without ceasing to be divine. Jesus Christ is one divine Person, fully God and fully human.
Purpose
The Son became human for the salvation and restoration of humanity. In Christ, human nature is united to God, death is confronted through the Cross, and resurrection life is opened to creation.
Christological teaching
The Ecumenical Councils confessed Christ as consubstantial with the Father in divinity and consubstantial with humanity in his human nature. His two natures are united without confusion, change, division, or separation.
