Agreement of Ecclesiastical Service and Non-Political Engagement
of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church
For Clergy and Incardinating Jurisdictions of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church and Pontifical Imperial State of Rome-Ruthenia
In the name of Almighty God, and in fidelity to the Doctrine, Canon
Law, decrees, and directives, and canonical traditions of the
Roman-Ruthenian Church and State, I, N., in entering into the clerical
state / incardinating into the United Roman-Ruthenian Church / as
jurisdictional bishop on behalf of my See joining in full communion
with the United Roman-Ruthenian Church, hereby affirm and agree to the following:
1. Primacy of Sacred Ministry
I acknowledge that my first and chief duty is to the service of the
altar, the preaching of the Gospel, the care of souls, and the
upholding of the sacred canons.
2. Abstention from Civil Political Authority
I agree not to assume positions of political, civil, or coercive
authority (including legislative, judicial, or executive offices)
except in those rare cases explicitly authorized by the Supreme
Pontiff; as indicated in part in the Apostolic Rescript on Clergy and the Exercise of Civil Authority.
3. Civic Service
I agree not to undertake civic duties that may compromise
ecclesiastical impartiality, including but not necessarily limited to
those outlined in the Apostolic Rescript on Clergy and the Exercise of Civil Authority unless with the written approval of my competent ecclesiastical superior, according to the norms of the same rescript.
4. Secular Occupations
I may undertake honorable secular employment of a non-political
character, provided it does not interfere with my ecclesiastical
duties, and only with approval from my proper superior.
5. Ecclesiastical Identity
In all public and professional service I shall neither obscure nor
conceal my clerical identity, but will comport myself in a manner
consistent with my sacred vocation and canonical obligations, as given
in Canon Law and other legislation, decrees, and directives.
6. Loyalty to the Church and State of Rome-Ruthenia
I pledge to uphold the dual nature of the United Roman-Ruthenian Church
and Pontifical Imperial State of Rome-Ruthenia as a sovereign
ecclesiastical body, non-territorial in nature and without civil
territorial ambitions and to conduct myself so as to avoid bringing the
Church into worldly quarrels, revolutions and uprisings, political
partisanship, or conflict with civil regimes. I acknowledge that this,
however, does not limit or remove the absolute right and authority of
the Church to speak on matters of morality, whatever the circumstances,
or the sovereignty of the Church; and neither does it limit right duty
to speak and act accordingly on behalf of the Church under proper
authority.
7. Historical Continuity
I acknowledge that this agreement reflects not new legislation, but the
perennial tradition of the One, Holy, Orthodox, Catholic, and Apostolic
Church, ensuring that clergy remain free of worldly entanglements that
compromise their sacred mission.
